MAIO is an architectural office based in Barcelona that works on flexible systems. The practice has developed a wide range of projects, from furniture or exhibition design to housing blocks or urban planning.
MAIO has recently completed the construction of a urban public square, an exhibition at the MACBA (Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art) and is currently building a housing block in Barcelona among other projects.  
MAIO-s members combine professional activities with academic, research and editorial ones. They are currently in charge of the magazine Quaderns d’Arquitectura i Urbanisme and teach at the School of Architecture of Barcelona ETSAB/ETSAV.  
They have lectured in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, GSAPP-Columbia University, Yale School of Architecture, Piet Zwart Institute, Het Nieuwe Institut, the Madrid School of Architecture ETSAM-UPM, Washington University, Facultade de Arquitectura de Lisboa and Brussels School of Architecture UCL-LOCI, among other places. MAIO-s work has been published in magazines such as Domus, Frame, AIT, Volume, Blueprint, A10 and Detail, and awarded several times.  
MAIO has participated at Venice Biennial 2016 in the Spanish Pavillion, awarded with the golden Lion. MAIO has also participated at Chicago Architecture Biennial 2015 and co-curated a Weekend Special at the last Biennale di Venezia 2014 together with SPACE CAVIAR and DPR-Barcelona. Recently Anna Puigjaner, co-founder of MAIO has been granted with 2016 Wheelwright Prize (Harvard GSD).
